Just got back from Daytona. We had a blast! No the 32 didn't sell. I didn't put a sign on it. I have a guy that is very interested and we are talkin. We took the train down. It's a great deal! For about the price of gas for the trip we load our cars on a train and take the easy way! Thank goodness too. I had to drive an hour in the rain in 50 degree weather. If it wasn't for the train the whole trip would have been wet. I did have a little trouble with the 32. The slow speed wobble came back in the front end. I couldn't fix it there so Squigy insisted I put a steering dampner on. He was right it worked! It's only a temp fix. I want to fix it right before I sell the car. The show was typical with lots of goofy gaudy cars. There was a lot of cool cars too. I fell in love with a 33 roadster from Michigan. It is so close to what I want with my 34. Lots of cool people! Some old friends I only get to see there and made some new friends from the HAMB. There was even a guy that I met at Bville there. Ty from Houston came over to the show. He's a lurker here and hopefully he'll speak up. I'll start with some pics of the 32 on the beach. Most should know that the beach is where Daytona racing started. they even did some land speed racing on the beach. I just think it is cool to drive on the same beach they raced on, just like being on the salt. Hell I didn't even get kicked off the beach this year! Clark
Here's the 33 I loved so much! You guys can ***** about the disc brakes all you want...this car is COOL! Check out the rope covered steering wheel and front spring. Lots of cool details on this car!
This 59 Impala (?????) was in the swapmeet. I loved the backend but the front just didn't do it for me. Also check out this old custom that was at the Plaza on Sunday. It had 40 Ford on the window sticker. I don't see anything 40 Ford. Maybe the ch***is.
spoke....the train costs about $550 for round trip tickets. That's 2 people and a car. You also get dinner and breakfast. As far as I know the Autotrain only runs from Lorton VA (DC) to Sanford FL (Orlando). I wish they had one from DC to Vegas Clark
I think AMTRAK is missing the boat (no pun intended). The car/train is a great idea. I know Ms. Detonator would love it. Hey, thanks for the pix. I like that rope wrap -- I PM'd you about it. Any idea how the guy did it?
That is in fact a 40 Ford;a friend of mine(Davey Jones from RI and now Florida)has owned that car for years.Davey is a striper and we used to do a lot of shows togehter in the early 70's.I remember one show where the both of us were a little wine-soaked(as was my ex-wife)and we proceeded to stripe the hell out of the car!The only time I ever took a brush to a car loaded. It was lime-gold then. I forget the original builders name but it was something Italian and he came from Rhode Island. That car was all over the small books in the late 50's.
Was Daytona as busy as usual with plenty of stuff for sale, ive had some good stuff there then had to get it onto the plane after the holiday...
A friend mentioned to me awhile back that taking the train with your car was they way to go and we were thinking about doing that for Paso this coming year... Clark- Could you please send those pics of your 32 on the beach to me at DATPACKRAT@YAHOO.COM Please do it at a high resolution....I would like to have it blown up and i will include a couple for you as well....Let me know holmes.
I saw you're coupe one of the nights at the shopping center, it looked great. Its kinda crazy how few traditional cars there were, but it made those that were there stand out. Me and my dad & bro saw that finned thing at the swap meet too. Think it was all metal work, or a touch of "plastic sculpting"? hehe. Great pics on the beach too
Glad to see you and your wife made it home ok.your wife is very kool,i wish mine were into the hot rod stuff, but oh well. it was a great weekend and i look foward to parking a few more HAMBers next year with us.Later,Squigy Oh,Thanks for the ride in your 32 that made my weekend!
........welcome home. What happened to the "T?" Didn't get it finished?? Also, no buyers for the wagon?? Sounds like you didn't get rich, but had a great time. THAT'S what it's all about.......
This was my first year at the Turkey run, left the tub and 59 home and drove the 98 Camaro 24 hours there and 24 back, we were the salt covered silver convertable. Thanksgiving at Hooters, thats another story. Great cars everywhere, like the MSRA back to the 50's weekend in St Paul, cool cars everywhere. If you guys think the Daytona swap meet is big and had neat stuff, you need to come up to Iola in July and see a 4200 space swap meet with only a handfull of professional vendors. Had a great time in Daytona, met some great people. Hope to do it again some day. Wish the train ran to Wisconsin. old spoke
I have an OLD (early 90's) picture of that candy yellow Mercury when it had Supremes and narrow WWs, looked lots better IMHO, If I find the album it's in, I'll scan and post it.
The train goes both ways... A pickup truck filled with swap meet finds from Hershey Or the Jalopy Showdown
Nads...YOU are the coolest!! 4t6....train is shut down for Hershey Brawler...one ned of the dampener is tied to the frame. The other is on the tierod. Spoke....it's cool you drove that far! Nothing like Thanksgiving at Hooters! Slam...I had a sunburn Finkie...the T got put aside for the video. I'll get back on it after a few other things are done. Squig..You da man! Save some spots for me next year. You may need to get more! Dodgerodder...sorry I missed you! Clark
That 33 looks like Bill's car. He is a talented designer. This is only one of several really nice rides if he still owns it. I have not lived in Michigan for a few years so things may have changed.
Clark glad you got home OK . Your car was awsome .It was nice to meet you down there .Im the guy the guy that met you at the book vendor.GREGG
clark I agree that is the Coolest 33 34 ford roadster ever.. and whats better is that the car has been the same for quite some time.. I KNOW i have a photo of it from the nsra show in st paul in 1989.. it was cool then and its cool now.. glad you made it back ok sawzall jeff
