Somthing really strange, for me, is going on with my 47. I just can't seem to get a real grip on which direction I'm headed. I have 3 deferent ways I would love to see this thing turn out, and the truth is I am in love with all 3 ideas. Never thought I'd be asking what others thought, I'm a "it's my car I'll build it my way, and if you don't like it don't look at it!" kinda guy most of the time. But I really am torn on this one.

Ok starting with a 1947 Ford Biz Coupe here are the 3 ideas I have:

#1 - This one was my first plan and notice it is still first on my list. I want a car that looks like the cars I remember seeing as a kid in the early 60s, while hanging out with my Dad at the track. The car would be:

-Primer red with a black painted grill (kinda like the Ken Schmidt Coupe)
    -Riding low
-283 done up with all the early speed goodies from that time frame
    -3 speed stick
    -9 inch rear
    -Black and White rolled interior
-and a set black steelies with just the center cap
-Shaved bumper and sporting Nerf bars instead
-Missing trim, but the holes still there
-A big 47 painted on the doors
-Straight axle with dropped crossmember and reversed eye spring
-And back windows full of speed equipment stickers

#2 - This idea is more ho-hum perhaps, but I still like Flat Black

    -Flat Black (DP90)
    -Slammed real low
-283 with lots of chrome goodies
    -3 speed stick
-Interior - Catus and desert scene material I found at a local furniture uphloster shop
    -1941 ford bumpers
    -1940 ford trim
    -polished slat lake special wheels
    -MII front suspension

#3 - This one smells sweet to me, but might require more body work expertise work than I am able to do. But the theme is a restored 47. Unless somone notices it sets a little lower and has wider wheels, they might think it all original.

    -Gloss Black
    -All stock trim
    -stock bumpers
    -Mohair interior (tan)
-Limeworks column with a Mark 10 wheel
-Creme colored wheels with caps and beauty rings
    -WWW tires
-A 283 done to look completely original, painted orange, factory valve covers and air cleaner etc.
-Straight axle with dropped member and reverse eye spring

I am close to spraying the body with primer and so I need to make up my mind. If I go Red oxide I'll jjust shoot it. If I go flat black I'll buy some DP90. If I go gloss balck I pick up some gray acrylic enamal primer.... gotta say I shot the firewall with red primer just as a test, and it don't look to bad... =)

Thanks for letting me bable on guys....

I like the first* and second ideas best. I ,would use a 350 instead of the 283 ,unless you have it. I have a 283, boosted to 302 in a FED i am building, and wish I had gone that route.

#2 with #1's interior would be my choice. I suspect, as others have stated, that #1 is the one that you really want. Go with your first instinct.

#1 or #2 is just a construction phase for what should be the correct goal, #3.
Build a real hotrod, not a movie prop car.

Terry, in your HEAD what will be the purpose of the car? Are you going to be sticking the whole family in it and driving all over the midwest again?? If so, #2 or #3 would be the more realistic move.

I voted #1, cause it has the most attitude, and will still be fun... plus it's a memory lane thing for you personally.

#2 has no appeal to me personally, but it's your car.

#3 is real cool, and is a close second choice, IMO.

If you did use a 350 or a MII on either of these, you won't offend me. It can still have that "feel" without being period correct, but you will know there's some un-trad stuff in there, and though you will be the only person that will ever give it that much thought... It might bother you going down the road thinking about those modern parts...

if I went #3, I might paint the SBC Ford Flathead green or something instead of orange, just to keep the civilians scratching their heads...

Edit: the grille on #1 could also be bright, but a bit patina'd, couple of "character dings", etc....

If the body is good enough, I would go with #3. How many coupes are you going to see done in gloss black-not many.

It's an easy 3, Terry. Clean lines, black car, early touches. This says hotrod. No reason you couldn't use nerf bars. Wondering about the column and wheel thing... probably don't know what it looks like.

Go with your own good judgement. You can always paint over your primers.

I'd say number 3. Gloss black takes a bit more time, but the end result is an amazing feeling. However, if it were my car, I'd be doing number 3's body, with number 1's engine and interior.

Go with #1 and never look back.

  23. If it were me, I'd put #1's engine into the #3 car. And, if it was black DP90 before the gloss got put on, that'd be okay, too.

Just as long as the little 283 snarls, that's what really matters!

  24. go with #1, BUT ditch the door paint idea, it's getting really tired. Oh yeah, don't black out the chrome, or take the side chrome off, you'll need it to break up all that color.

    I like # 3 best but I would go with a 350.

  28. I would build it like #1 (minus the door #) and have a blast in it while working out all the rough spots in the body to get it ready for the shiny black paint. You could even enjoy the swiss cheese trim delete untill it was painted then put it all back on. I like the Idea of the traditional Interior and Motor in a shiny black shell. You could enjoy the best of both worlds and It would be a timeless look when finished.

    .02 from the FNG :)

    When in doubt...gas it!

In other word's, if you already like #1, then do it! Something deep inside is trying to tell you.

Beside's I have only got hurt when I didn't gas it!
