New CKD...

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by fur biscuit, Nov 30, 2005.

  1. Well, i really don't know what to say, it is kinda uh...but the positives are:

the guy on the HAMB, that does the "Church" brand stuff, i think the Ford truck featured in CKD (yellow/gold flames), is where he got the idea for one of his shirts, which rocks!

    blah, blah, blah..

BLONDEBOMBSHELL!!!, not my style though, but wow.

i guess, it was good ****ter reading, but not much more than that.

I hate the magazine bashing here just as much as anyone else.

    However-

Maybe because Hotrod and R&C have been more attentive to the traditional movement and with their style and professionalism, they make OSR and the new CKD look trashier than usual? It seems HR and R&C have become much better, and CKD has gone down the drain....

I didn't like the "newspaper" pages snuck in, and I can definitely do without all the skin. My sub has expired to CKD and I'm kinda glad.

I usually try like hell to stay out of these mag "discussions" but just think what it would be like if there were no Traditional mags at all or we had to read some higher power(govrnmnt) sensored mag. I think we tend to take that for advantage. I know people complain about the piss poor writing or the poor quality photos but we are all not perfect. I've seen some bad spelling and not so great photo's here but I don't see anyone bashing the board. I myself **** at grammer. I think it adds character to stuff. I like all the mags, it just pisses me off that I can't afford to buy them all. Just my .02, hope I didn't rub anyone the wrong way. later shawn

The new CKD was especially piss poor IMHO. The coverage of the Road agent's show was the worst show coverage of any magazine i may have ever read, with the exception being of when OSR's coverage of Lead East last year was actually the trophy ceremony at Lead East and the overflow parking lot at the Road Agent's show. Horrendous.

Sabrina is smokin hot, and we should see more of that kind of stuff in print. However, only if it doesn't shift cars to the back burner.

The new Rolls and Pleats is incredible

Well, the idea and spirit of Skin and Tin has never quite gone away. I've just been busy with job **** and of course, my daughter whose due at the end of the month. After the baby is born and things settle abit, I do plan on going through with the online to print, all pix of girls and trad tin magazine.

I agree its kinda turned out to be another life-style magazine, I was kinda hoping for more "stuff" in it ya know?

  13. i guess that is what kinda gets me, is that a simple rag like rolls and pleats is so well done.

i enjoy looking at all the mags, and i actually like the novelty of having the b/w newspaper style pages. (but it is a case of to each thier own), and cause it gives something different than Rot and Custom.

oh, ya the girls name is Sabina not Sabrina...

and the rag said it was going to focus more on the Kulture and lifestyle side of hot rodding, which is what it seeks to do...kinda well...i always end up comparing it to either Garage or Rolls and Pleats, which are very well done, but are of a completely different calibre.

If there's one thing that the import guys have kinda right is that their car shows have loads of really hot girls. Maybe not the kinda chicks that you'd wanna bring home to meet mom, but it's all in good fun. Most of the traditional car shows...well...it's not hard to keep the focus on the cars. It's cool that Sabina had a feature in CKD, but considering those pages could have been used for show coverage....

Is it just me, or does it seem like OSR and the new CKD ( same, same IMHO ) are like the kids who's mom's said they were cool? It just seems like they try to hard and it just doesn't come natural.

What are those headlights from? yes, I am talking about the car, you perverts

  21. I'm always amazed how many people gripe about a mag, but still manage to bring it home. It's usually fairly obvious what the quality is, if you thumb thru a mag at the newstand. I haven't bought one of the CKD's (or whatever the ***le currently is) in years. Never bought an OSR. NEVER.

Here's some good ***les to hunt down...

    BurnOut
    Rolls & Pleats
    Kustoms Illustrated
    Magneto
    ******** Rod & Kustom

  22. I like reading any hot rod magazines and if the cars fit closely with my tastes i buy it, i mean honestly what are the chances of finding rolls and pleats at 7-11? if the writings too corny i don't read it, if the pictures are to corny i won't look at em' but there are some pretty cool cars in that mag (the two ford trucks, and that cadillac are not too shabby) that hot rod church truck was just a turd, so i didn't bother paying much attetion to it but overall it's an ok magazine thats not a ***** to find, but they need to seperate it from osr and ****.

  23. oh yah the hot blode didn't hurt either...;)

  24. Do what you gotta do. For me, my cash is hard earned and I'm not droppin $5 on ****...I'd rather order a mag or pick it up at a show or something...it's usually worth the wait. Besides...the HAMB is crawlin with cooler cars than most of the mags feature. My 2¢.

  26. I do agree with you on that i don't ALWAYS buy the mags i usually get R&C when i see somthin interseting i DON'T Buy OSR unless there is somthing i really like (which is rare) and i picked this one up for the cover car. Plus i'd never read a CKD before, but one of the only real problem with the HAMB is i can't read it in cl*** or take it with me.

Nice ****storm you started Doug. -gimme a call, I found some parts you may need-

Anyway, like it or not, it's out there. If you like the magazine when you see it on the stand, buy it. If not, save up for that ultra-rare part that keeps getting away from you, or some pomade if you're into that. I bought the mag, I'll find out if I like it at my next meeting with Captain Porcelain, and if not, oh well. It's a ****ing magazine!

But then again, a $6 magazine can also buy 6 beers at my old watering hole.

Haven't seen the new CKD yet....but on a side note, I just wanted to ask everyone's opinion...Is it just me, or is Rod and Custom getting thinner? Just been thinking that I'm getting a whole lot less than i used to outta that mag...I guess that's my only big complaint with mags...they're not thick enough! I get through 'em too quickly...I guess i'd give magazine companies up to an extra 2 bucks a copy if they wanted to make the things phone book thick....
