As some of you know i lost my uncle Robert "poncho" rendon due to cancer late this summer. I had posted some of his racing history a while back and i thought i would share some of his cars that no one got to see. He has left me with one of his favorite cars that I will never get rid of. About 6 years ago we made a trip to Chicago to go look at a 32 ford 5 window coupe that was an old drag car. We got there and talked to the guy and the car had no real history, nothing was painted on the side or nothing. The car had about a 3 inch chop and a fire wall set back about a foot. The car at one time had, I belive a 427 ford engine in it. The frame was a 48 ford truck frame and it gave the car a goofy looking wheel base. Inside the body was free of any thing that was not needed for drag racing. They tryed to lightin up the car, so there was no door insides, no garnish mouldings, no dash, but yet they had a 1/8 plate floor in it. So basicly we ended up with a really stripped out coupe body.
It has a blown flathead motor in it. It's Judson blower with 2 97's and it has kogel ROCKET cast iron finned heads on it. my uncle was tired of shiftin gears so he put a C4 Ford auto trans in it, but i'll fix that with a La Salle 3 speed.
i have two that are plain but i have seen hexagon tool casted on the top on one other. that air cleaner only fits hexagon tool intakes and this blower
Hey Tony, Man that looks great, is this the car you needed what was left of the Tudor doors for ? you got some very rare and very cool stuff on that thing I am really glad you got it. I am really sorry for your loss, I knew your Uncle for like 30 years I am really going to miss seeing him at swap meets. I am sorry i was unable to attend the Funeral ( I was planning on it ) but some unexpected pressing family stuff came up I had to take care of. But some other Road Knights showed up to represent us. Your Uncle was always very proud of you, it's fitting you have this Deuce so you both can live out his legacy. with most sincere sympathy for your loss, and very best regards Harms Way ( a.k.a. Cisco) PS; If you ever name this car I think "Poncho" would look great.
Well.... ummm.... Its just alright, nothin more than that. Just fuckin with ya Tony, that car is right, cant wait to see the knock offs on it! 1 week and two days later and my ass still hurts like hell. you shudda did it man... Yea right, never again! Hammer Hank
Aw man, I'm getting all choked up over here. That car couldn't be in better hands and it pleases me very much to hear you say you will never get rid of that car. Uncle Bobby had some real clear vision with the cars he built and was in the process of building. I always envied him for that. It's a blessing he raised you to appreciate hotrodding, and you will carry on the tradition that we all know and love. I'm very Proud of you Tony
Hi Tony, nice save, that thing was really goofy looking, some really nice part choices where made. I don't think I've ever seen another engine setup like that. Gus
