Lately i've been building a 'steering jump' kinda like those wizard space savers.. using a double roller timing chain and spockets to span a gap in the sterring about 8 inches.

going out today to recover a vertical steering box and linkage off a 1ton chev cube van, (yay :p ) and see how far along the guy i bought the donor 1ton dually pickup got with stripping the body. i'll get it all home this week, just finishing up my last shift.

Might start burning the COE cab off the stock 3ton ch***is today too.

For those of us who wonder if we are wasting out time and money on our truck, a 41 Ford COE sold for $10,000 on e-bay today.

    Item # 110735692028

1941 Ford Cab Over Truck custom delivery box on back. Art deco style with fender skirts.
Front Axle is 2003 Isuzu NPR that has huge disc brakes and also has 19.5 in rims.
Rear axle is a Dana 60 from a 1986-87 F350 Dually that has 3.70 gears and has 16 in. rims.
The suspension (springs and shackles) are stock.
Currently has no steering, but I have the power steering box from the same Isuzu truck, but fabrication is required to install it.
Motor and transmission I do not know the history on, just using it for mock up. But they are a 1971 390 FE big block engine and a C6 transmission. The motor mounts are bolted in but transmission mount is not completed.
Minus all the updated items, the rest of the vehicle is stock.
Body is overall solid, there are a couple small areas of rust. The delivery box is approx 13 1/2 ft. long. Still has the oak flatbed and still in good shape.
    This is a PROJECT truck.
I have an old ***le for the vehicle
Hoping this goes to a good home. I had intentions to make it an enclosed car hauler.

  6. Hi Guys
Well today I continued on the bodywork of the 41 Ford Cab, did I tell you how much I hate bodywork !!!!, would much rather be fabricating.
I did fit the radiator and the Stainless Cooling pipes under the Cab as well as fit the upper Seat Belt Mounting plate/strap.
Is that enough for one day ?

I put my coe on the back burner a bit today. I found either a '49 or a '50 1 ton chevy box truck with an old box that has rounded corners. I can get it with no ***le for $800. Not too bad cause it has to be worth that in s**** metal and parts. It used to belong to a furniture store. I am a residential remodeling contractor so this truck will fit perfect in my company fleet. I plan to make the inside of the box to be a jobsite on wheels with all my tools inside and space to work.

Bought a camper to pull with the unfinished truck......The wife just had to have it. Worked on some body work today. I got tired of fabrication so I am doing the body work on the roof and one b pillar since they are complete as far as fab work goes. Still have a little fab work and floor bracing to complete. I did get one functioning window in my rear door. Here's the camper.

It's going to snow here tomorrow and we had a nice day so i went for a drive in the kabover. they finally finished rebuilding a secondary hi-way thats near my house so i drove west towards the rocky mountains and they were showing how close we are to winter with lots of snow up on their tops. i should have been taking care of business but once in awhile a guy just has to regroup, so i did. i'm quite prolific when it comes to building hot rods and have sold them to better my family and my life but driving my truck today i've decided 100% that myself and this old grain truck are going to together for a long time. its like driving a instant vacation.

  22. Well I am busy doing bodywork/bondowork anyone want to jump in an airplane and give me a hand. I hate sando bondo !!!

Hey Bill, Send me a airline ticket and I'll be right there. Don't care much for sanding but will do it just to meet you and see the land down under.

In doing my fall clean-up i got carried away and sorted a bunch of old magazines, i came accross a 1989 sept street rodder with a article on bob drakes restored 38 ford c.o.e. Jerry weesner wrote " if you come across one of these old work-horses, think twice before p***ing it up as rod building material" Can't you see one of these brutes chopped, slammed, and turned into a crewcab" I thought about it and there were a few c.o.e.'s around but not a lot so the weez was bang on with his foresight.

I travel 220 miles round trip to check on one of my properties and i do alittle back roading once in a while on the return trip. spring and fall are the best times to do this as the leaves are gone from the trees. today i spotted a 48-52 ford c.o.e. and checked out a very rough 56 mercury c.o.e. sooooo do i need another project? i'm going to check out the 48-52 in the near future and i'll take my camera with. It's a fact that when you drive a particular type of old car or truck you get people telling you where like vehicles are, which is great but i keep thinking i should finish a few projects i already have. must be age talking. i look in the mirror and there's a old guy looking back. i'm a 20yr old stuck in a 55yr old well abused body.

don't read to much into that donn. i've fallen into a role of property management since my dad p***ed on. i was a steelworker and tried a few times to be self employed. i'm just a worker bee like most people. i've always made extra monies in this great hobby either working on other people's projects or by building and selling mine. still growing up but we were so poor when i was a kid that we had hot dogs sat for supper and weiner water soup the rest of the week.

I haven't been able to actually work on my COE, but I did pick up a couple parts today....
First is a nice roof skin from a '59 Chevy 4 door. I hope to use it to finish the roof on my '51 "crew cab".
Second was 3 like new dually wheels for $25 each! SCORE! These are kinda hard to find in decent shape....here's a pic......
