So what color would you paint the walls of a hot rod bathroom?

    Guys,

I took charge of redoing my half bath and have been hot rodding it. To flush the pot for now, you pull the spring loaded 9/16" wrench on the chain. I'm also going to foot flush it with the bass drum foot pedal later. The chain and wrench was something I hadn't planned on doing, but it turned out pretty cool, works great, my oldest 2 can reach it, and the youngest cannot.

Moving forward, the existing towel rack is going to be replaced with a camshaft, the flooring is getting switched to black/white checkered, and a vanity will be made out of a rolling craftsman tool cabinet that will be solid mounted to the wall with a recessed sink. There will also be a wall mount hand cleaner dispenser and paper towel holder.

Anyways, here's what I've done so far - and I gotta tell ya, it's pretty damn sweet to watch when the water comes rushing through those clear loops!

    The whole system:

    The flusher:

Here's a few other decorational items:

The T-bird on the shelf above is actually TP holder that I haven't mounted yet and I also have a VW Bug one to park next to it. I also have one with an AMFM radio w/ SIREN in case you ever get stranded. Six TP holders all together.

I also already bought a cool single lever faucet because the lever looks like a shift arm and there is a threaded ball at the end of it that's going to be replaced with an actual shift nob of some sort. I also have seven inline flow indicators that I'm going to install in the water line that feeds the elevated tank and the walls are going to be further decorated by a bunch of my framed vintage car magazines from the 50's. In front of the seated user will also be a 16 place magazine rack that spans from the wall to the door when it's open.

    Here's my current pickle:
One of the things I have to start thinking about is what kind of color would be awesome on the walls.

Any wall color suggestions would really be appreciated. One of the colors I'm thinking about is something like a high gloss copper or bronze color, but I dunno if it would be too dark and gloomy. The room is supposed to be "fun" so I might just go with white with red trim and NOT have the walls be a "feature". FYI, I can't afford to diamond plate the room.

So lets hear your ideas, please!!

    Thanks,
    John

Both black and flat black have been thought of and would look cool and I also recently found my airbrush - so flames are doable. Black would also make the chrome that much brighter. Got any "one shot" left so I can stripe it?

Silver on top, and black on the bottom, two toned. Break the two colors with some process blue one shot.

    Maybe a 50s aqua?

I'm diggin' the elevated tank. It would be great it the clear tubing was showing what was coming out of the bowl instead!

    I like it! :)

Oh, and what is the kick drum pedal doing there????

    Thanks.

The elevated tank was a result of me looking into an actual "water closet" style toilet - and learning they start at about $1,000 dollars. I thought, BS - I can make my own at Home Depot for less than a TENTH of that - and did.

My original design had the bowl turned 45 degrees with the back of it towards the corner, and the seat back would either be a creeper or an actual car seat back, but we decided to wait until we get the vanity built to see if it interfered with the ergonomocs of a rotated bowl.

The kick drum pedal might also get hooked to the flusher - so you can either step on that and make it flush or pull the wrench on the chain. If so, I have a mooneyes footprint gas pedal cover thing that will be what you step on.

I like the silver and black idea.

I'm not allowed to paint the whole thing red, but might get away with some red pinstriping.

Why would I pinstripe it with brown insread of reeee...........oh, nevermind.

I like the metal flake idea but I think it would be a bitch to undo if I ever had to. Not that I'm worried about it too much. I can't afford to move anywhere else that would fit al of us, and even if we did - the next owner will probably either be a gear head or make a Taco Bell parking lot out of the whole damn place.

I vote for Red. Make it look like shop walls. A two tone, dirty red colors. They have rollers and pans now so you can roll two colors on at once.

    Wife had me do her bathroom as follows;
(She's a gearhead too, you know?)
Tub to cieling white tile with charcoal grout around the tub/shower.
Sink cabinet sprayed with "tool box" medium gray "Hammertone" paint.
Walls and cieling done in two shades of Purple, a dark Mauve that matches her Royal Velvet towels and the same purple pigments but in a medium lavender, and a white-white all done with a natural sponge evenly all over the walls and cieling so it looks very much like the mottling inside a 60's car trunk.
The floor is still the "cracked ice" linoleum that was in it when we bought the house.

  17. Paint the wall across from the window a light color, it will help keep the bathroom bright (reflect the light from the window) like a off white

and go crazy for the rest. i liked the 50's T bird aqua or something equally obnoxious. black may be really to over powering, but a good solid darker color may work.

If you are running the blue toilet bowl stuff, it will help accentuate the piping and water... it may also help keep the mildew from forming against the clear pipe.

    keep posting, looks great.

I would like to see the walls two toned with the lower portion being trunk spatter paint and the top just white. Separate the two with some chrome.

I have seen a resturant that used corrugated tin wainscoting all the way around the room. It looked pretty good.

So this is the perfect thread for me... I love Cars/Hot Rods, and I am addicted to home improvement. HGTV is my friend :)

So... Have you considered a black and white checkered paint theme on the walls? You could pinstripe some flames over parts if you wanted... but it would keep it from being too dark... and go with your floor.

Love what you've done in there... Keep up the good work.

Since you're doing the shop deal, seems like a lot of "pro" shops do that deal where the walls are battleship gray up to about halfway from the floor, then white (or very light gray) from there up, but separated by a band of bright red about 8-10" wide all the way around. Door frames and window casings get painted a gloss version of the battleship gray.

It should be that old refridgerator light bluish/green color... sort of the same color was on early t birds to I think...

    That toilet's gotta go... ick.

A hotrod bathroom should have a bidet in lieu of a toilet... then you can pee in the sink and wash parts in the bidet...

    Cracked me up!

    Very creative work!

I installed a bath last winter with a water closet.

I wonder if my B and B guests would approve of using a 9/16 wrench to flush their log in the morning?

    Good job heres mine.

How about piss yellow then you won't have to worry about your aim.:D:D
Looks pretty cool tho. If you are going for the old garage look the shiny grey and white two tone treatment with the thin red pinstripe splitting the two would be the best bet.

  30. i just did my "car" room in asphalt grey, dutch boy at wal-mart, with white trim. get the egg-shell finish so that you can clean it later. semi-gloss is way to shiney and shows all the flaws in the walls. kinda like painting a car black. flat black is a bad idea. every where you touch it it will leave hand prints. i've painted flat black ceilings in two houses recently, i'm a house painter, and it's a nightmare.and looks bad.
