Just wondering, how many HAMB members rods are actually painted? A lot of these magazines would lead you to believe they are all black primer. I know my Chevy is still in gray primer ,I just don't have the body good enough yet. So what is it, paint or primer?
Both!! well sorta. My "primered" ride ('34 plymouth coupe) is actually flat black lacquer. A **** load of flattener made it look pretty close to looking like primer and it is relatively easy to wash. Been this way since the late 80's. I think I may have washed it back then too.
non of my cars hit the road until paint is done. I cant see doing the same work over and over again just to bring the car some where.
Chad, is that original paint on your car? I'm starting to think Ford used red oxide under everything...
I believe they did Ryan. My T has shiny paint and my 54 has older oxidized paint that I still rub out each year.
Was OG PAINT. Then OG paint w/sum primer. Now ALL PRIMER. SOON.......PAINT.......sum day....soon I hope. Progress is being made. fonzi
White primer with the remnants of a GM aqua rattle can scallop job on the hood and roof-money and bodywork(so I guess more money) but shiney SOON!
Shine on that one, shine on that one, shine on that one over there and shine on the one in the storage shed...guess you could say all of mine are PAINT!!! SHINE it IS!!! R-
PAINT ! i like paint. 10 years ago i was going to primer this ol 55 210 2 door i have, i put a wicked ***ed 350 in plans were to make a 2 lane blacktop type machine with old americans. NOT NOW! TOOOOOOOOOOO MANY flat blacks/primered rigs around. its old faded 1/2 green 1/2 red oxide original paint with a couple cracked windows, it took 50 years for it to look like that & i aint messin it up in a weekend! I DO SEE ALOT OF COOOOOOOOOOOL PRIMERED CARS AROUND THAT I LIKE TO LOOK AT THOUGH !
I've got the look of primer with the durability and protection of paint. We used single stage urethane and added flattner until it looked like DP 90. One day I'll decide on a final color...til then we're good.
Mine is 10 parts grey primer, 4 parts black paint for a satin dark grey with slightly more wether resistance than straight primer.
Funny this would come up just when I'm pulling whats left of my hair out, tring to decide what I want on my Coupe. Truth is most painted cars make me yawn. I love seeing projects in progress, a trip through a bone yard excites me much more than any car show, and the look of a in your face - if you don't like it, don't look at it - of a rough, crusty rod floats my boat. Once it's painted it just gives me that well thats nice, now whats next, feeling. Maybe I have issues... but I think of Indian LArry's explaination "I like the inside of a watch more that the pretty face. I want to see the gears and springs" Thats what primer or flat cars do for me. It feels more real .... touchable .... useable .... Now will I paint this car? I just don't know... But to answer your question, my truck wears both.
Am I the only person that logs onto this board that has heard of and used a paint product sold and marketed by the JOHN DEERE company called BLITZ BLACK?
ProForm with black paint mixed in on my 59 Ranchero. That's what Shiny says it is. And he painted it. It will get real paint and clear one day, though.
