this was a 50s panel truck,dont know what make .my grandpa welded a plate over the front of the truck body to close it off.then dug out the side of the hill and set it and covered it up.they still use it today....
Uuuummmm, TORNADOS. My grandpa did kinda the same thing, but he used an old bus that had all the windows plated over. He just buried it, and built stairs down to the opening in the back of the bus. Made a good fort!

Looks more like a "root" cellar, that's what we call them here. My Grandfather had one when we had the dairy farm. Not as fancy as yours, just a plain wooden door. Stored winter squash and other long keeper veggies and such. Very cool pic.
