$275 for the bike, complete with rear fender from a continental kit, Hap Jones peanut tank, exhaust pipes, and tailight.
Then an additional $12 for the candy apple tangerine spray can paint, $3 for the silver paint (front rim).

'46 Chevy Aero-sedan,SBC,'glide,'56 chev 3:50 posi rear, lakes, dummy spots, lowered, cut coils on stock front end with pontiac disc brakes.Sold the sedan in '88; it lives about a block from me today. It was a nice ride, not a lick of trouble, so why did I sell it? To finance the '36 Chrysler project.

    1984 I had 2 vehicles.

A 57 Chevy pickup with the blue flame 6. Painted (Union Pacific Boxcar Red) with a brush. Found the paint in the ba*****t of a house I rented. Paint was probably older than the truck. Actually looks brown. Don't know why they call it boxcar red. Just sold it this year to a bunch of kids looking for an alternative to Hondas. It wasn't for sale but they wore me down. Still had the same paint. Just realized I had that truck from 78 to 03 and don't think I ever took a picture of it. It just was, and is, a good reliable truck. Always started, even at 40 below!

Second vehicle was a 1983 Honda CX-650 Custom. That was burgundy then but it's candy blue over flake with blue flames now. Still have that one but it needs the valves adjusted and front fork seals. It's sitting outside with a couple inches of snow on it right now. I probably ought to bring it in and work on it over the winter.

I like to think that I don't qualify as an old fart (yet), but this is what I was building 20 years ago (at age 16).

  14. 20 years ago I was helping my dad restore a stock Model A that eventually went on to win the Silverado Concours and some Model A Ford Club of America events... this is also very close to the time I bought my first car, a 1955 Chevy, that I went on to build as a show winner and street/drag racer... and was helping my older brother John build Mustangs... (he bought his '66 GT Fastback that he has to this day after seeing it at the Turlock swap in Jan. '83)

Today is actually also the 20th anniversary of me getting my own subscription to Hot Rod Magazine... and it's killing me what was on the cover... I'm wanting to say it was a Porche with an injected big block in it... but can't say for certain... anyway, in 1983 I was 13 and so deep into cars that it hurt... [IMG]

  15. Hmm, double post missing picture, guess i should stick to cars. [IMG]

  16. Hey Sam, I been hooked since I was old enough to breathe, I lose more skin lately, but it doesn't hurt much. [IMG]

Twenty years ago I'd not long placed the green car pictured on a long term loan, and was driving the blue one. However, it ran a flattie and wire wheels. They both still have the same paint and upholstery. [IMG]

Nephew never did make the Widowmaker with it, but it was one hell of a hill climber locally and in Jawbone Canyon (bewtween Mojave and Ridgecrest, California).
He got over the big hill in Jawbone Canyon with it ... which is saying a whole lot.
There were guys who built 716cc stroker TT500's who didn't make it.
A lot due to how good a rider nephew was, but a lot due to the CR500 as well

Jay the big hill in Jawbone canyon was called SOCAL HILL. SOCAL MC used it in there race every year in the 60's and early 70's I've been down it a number of times and always wanted to see someone try to make up. sumitch has to be over a 1/4 mile of uphill sand and I quit riding before the paddle tires [IMG]

    Mike,
Nice pan. What year was it. I had a big inch '49 for an address through the late '70s into the early '80s.

    Thanks

Mine was also a '49. The motor didn't last as long as yours though.

$275 was considered a high end price in those days. This one had the footshift conversion (gr***hopper) already installed. That was a big selling point. You could buy them all day long back then for less than $200, but with the big tanks, foot clutch, and maybe the rear fender flap removed at the most.

  21. 20 years ago, we'd moved to my parents present house, and I had a *****en AMF Fire Chiefs pedal car. About 3 years later, I'd stripped off the ladder racks, the bell, and the hubcaps, painted it flat black with white flames. Dad thought I "ruined it" so he threw it out... bummer.

20 years ago I was thirty five and heavily into the VW scene. Had a 63 'vert, 77 white on white Convertable, 67 Kombi (bus) that I hauled band gear in. Later got into "heavy metal" by way of a 50 Buick sedanete.

20 years ago I was working on a couple of sedan deliveries, my '57 and '40 Fords. Still have 'em both and neither is finished.

I'm toying with the idea of selling the '40 but the '57 will sit in the garage for a few more years when I get a chance to finish it.

20 years ago I had a 40 Buick coupe, straight 8 w/ 2 carbs and dual exhaust. At that time the aftermarket didn't exist, so I was stuck with a lot of obselete running gear that was impossible (for me) to modify. I still kick myself in the *** for selling that car. If anyone in the San Diego area has my old car and wants to sell it please let me know.

Jay, Hemi -- The big hill in Jawbone Canyon was called Jawbone Hill and was included, as a downhill, in the start of the Rams' Run, a couple of miles past the smoke bomb. SoCal Hill was located northwest of Dove Springs Canyon, west of Robbers' Roost. It was used as a sort-out downhill maybe 7-8 miles from the start. The hill is a sonofa***** as a downhill, and I know of no one who has ridden it as a hillclimb. Unlike Jawbone which was broad and generally unobstructed, SoCal necked down in several places and the resulting carnage was unbelievable. In the '50s, major desert races like SoCal, the Rams' Run, Check Chase attracted 300-400 riders in a m*** start. I lost my hare & hound cherry on the SoCal H&H as a youngster on a new Triumph Tiger Cub Scrambler. Damn! those were fun times!
