See posting on "Hokey Ass Message Board " on resetting Norton parameters so it works OK.

Posted it there so everyone would see it.

I'll post it again here, as if scrolls down pretty fast on the discussion board.

    This worked for me:

Open Norton Security - Advanced Options.

Add "www.jalopyjournal.com" site as shown in left side of screen.

Go to Privacy TAb and allow "Referer" and check the box for this site.

    Hope this helps someone.

I have Norton Internet Security 2004, which doesn't expire until May 2006. I have searched through Norton and have yet to find the Advanced Options you have displayed. The closest I have found is under Ad Blocking where I added "www.jalopyjournal.com" and "Permit All". I still have the dreaded Red X's. I guess the only solution is to purchase the 2006 version of Norton and hope it works. :(

    Thanks anyway...

Probably a couple of ways to get there:

1> Open Norton Security, probably where you found "Ad Blocking", go to the "Options" pull down, select "Internet Security", from that option screen, select "Advance Options" and follow the previously given directions.

    OR

2> On the bottom right corner of your screen there might be a kind of green globe type symbol that comes up as Norton Internet Security, RIGHT click on that and then select "Advance Options" and follow previoulsy given directions.

MAKE SURE THAT THE JALOPYJOURNAL IS HI-LIGHTED ON THE LEFT HAND PART OF THE SCREEn WHEN DOING THIS, otherwise you will be making changes to some other site.

This was from Norton Internet Security 2002, later versions are probably the same or similar.

    Hope this works for you.

PS, I would probably re-enable the Ad Blocking feature.

I'm running Norton Internet Security 2003 & didn't have the same menu features mentioned above, but managed to solve the Red X thing using similar tactics!

Step 1 - Open Norton Internet Security & Select Privacy Control
Step 2 - The panel on the right (default - "item details") will turn blue & offer two choices: Turn Off & Configure - Select Configure
Step 3 - A new window will open with four buttons on the bottom - select "Advanced"
Step 4 - Another new window will open, at the bottom right, select "Add Site"
Step 5 - Type in the address of the website (in this case, www.jalopyjournal.com or www.jockeyjournal.com)
Step 6 - If not already selected after you type in the name & hit OK, select the added site & uncheck the default boxes on the right. Select "permit" button for each of these areas.

I did this & got the HAMB & Jockey Journal back up w/o red Xs - thanks for the help from everyone (I had added the websites in a previous attempt, but couldn't eliminate the red Xs until I manually permitted everything). Hope this helps someone.

Thank you Ernie! I was using Norton 2003, gave up and got another firewall and antivirus which have been ok but, my internet connection seems to have slowed quite a bit versus Norton.

Gonna try to reinstall Norton and follow your directions. Thanks everyone for figuring this thing out.

You're welcome, but I can't take all the credit - lots of folks IDed the problem & solution in some of the advanced settings - I just tailored it to the '03 version of Norton...glad it helped though!:D

Yea! Thanks Flat Ernie, your fix worked for me. Those x's were very frustrating. I don't post a whole lot but I like looking and reading and had about given up. Now I can get my fix. Good job!

Yessiree. That worked. Although, for whatever reason, I've got no Advanced tab under Privacy Control. I had to go to Options on the first window that pops up when you open Internet Security. From there I was able to Add Site under the tab Web Contents.

Now I gotta figure out why my cable connection is so friggin' slow! I may as well have dial-up again!

None of the above worked for me since I dont have Norton Security.

However I do have Zone Alarm Pro and I had to allow Private Headers to get rid of the X's. WTF is a Private Header and why is HAMB the only site on the Internet that gives me problems??

  15. i installed the free firefox . i get into the hamb with it and no red x as i do with norton
