Hi everybody, I'm new to the group and the website. I've got a 54 customline with a straight 6, 3 speed w/ overdrive that ive had for a while and just recently moved and now have the space to finally work on it. Ive got alot of ideas for my build but just not enough know how, so any ideas, suggestions, or words of wisdom are greatly appreciated. There are alot of good looking 54's on here, so i hope one day mine will be just as cool. Thanks, Ian
cool project! I think that the hamb is a great place to get ideas. You could go g***er style with these cars that looks really cool! You could also go from a mild custom to extreme custom! I like these cars chopped, shaved, and lowered. For me I went with shaving the door handles, frenching the headlights, and a mild lowering. I bought my car cause I wanted more hands on! have fun its all about learning!
Welcome to the group, Ian. Vein is right. This is a great place to get ideas and gain knowledge. This social group is specific to just the '52-'56 Ford car, so its the place to come when you run into nit-picky little problems that only people with intimate knowledge of these cars would have. So, don't be afraid to ask. Eric
Welcome!!! It seems we are getting new guys each day, great! You'll enjoy this group. Lots of great cars here with tons of ideas to consider.
yeah....it seems like the time has finally come for these cars to come into their own. There's still plenty of available metal at a fair price and these cars are very easy to work with. Not only are the tri-five Chevy's too dang expensive but I've noticed at the last few misc gatherings that I've been to that nobody really notices them anymore. I remember when I was 16 and actually had a nice stash of money saved up from a couple years of sacking groceries and was seriously looking for an old car to buy. I had my heart set on a Model A tudor sedan, but I came across a 54 Merc hardtop for sale and was smitten by the factory frenched headlights and stocky body. It was a REALLY nice car and out of my price range. Not long afterwards, I came across the 54 Ford that I still have and noticed how similar it looked to the Merc, except in my opinion, the rear view of the car, with the fenders that looked like early Corvette and the way the car was wider up front and tapered nicely to a more narrow rear, really seemed even more unique and beautiful than the Merc. I still admire those same lines today and through the years I've noticed that there are very few of them at swap meets and rod runs. I'm probably 6 months away from having mine back on the road for the first time since 1994 and I can't wait to go down the road again with that big hood out front and the view of that sweeping fender line that runs unbroken, from the headlight all the way to the tailight.
Ian, After searching long and hard for groups like this I joined some others, then I got an email from Jeff. I joined up a couple of days ago and this group by far is the best. They have given me so many awesome ideas. I have been having actual dreams about my car. Good luck with yours, Chris
Welcome Ian. If you ever want any paint ideas we have our own photoshop group (or go to "the photoshop thread to end all all photoshop threads). This group is full of great people who have a lot of good advice.
rustyford your also right on about how more things are still on the expensive, common side of the tri five chevys or some of the shoebox fords. Dont get me wrong I still like them, but still on the common side.
