I'm heading to Nashville this week to see BSO. Where is the real rockabilly type joint to hang out? thanks, hotrodwalt
I'm not local, but I've knocked back many a beer at Roberts Boot Bar. I can't remember which night is Rock-A-Billy night....Wed???? Wish I could make it up there, but we have Wayne Hancock here in Atlanta on Tue. Hard decision which show to go to. Z
Make sure you let us know how the show is, we have tickets for the show here in Redwood City on 12/20
doesnt hank the 3rd play up that way on a regular basis? i have a friend who caught him here in chattanooga and said his show was pretty good, but the usual asshats had shown up making it a bad scene and now hank the 3rd will never play this club again. it was so bad they had my friend bouncing some to help get the ne'er do wells out.
Wayne is playing at Smiths 'Ol Bar on Tue. 8PM. $12 plus 2 cans of food. You can get tix online. http://www.smithsoldebar.com/calendar.html I thought BSO was on Tuesday as well! Seems it's on Wed. Z
you will definitely want to check out Lower Boardway in Nashville - I usually just go to Bluegrass Inn Address : 418 Broadway Music : Bluegrass Hours : Mon-Thu 8pm-2am Fri 6pm-2am Sat 2pm-2am Its kinda hit or miss but i've seen some good shows there. Good luck
Yep, go to my friend Layla's Bluegrass Inn... then if its boring you can walk next door to Robert's. If you see my buddy Buckshot (Buckshot48 on the Hamb) playing (he used to be with BR5-49) tell him I said Chevys suck.
Hey Walt, do you ever get up towards Chicago? Too far north? If you do, let me know, I can probably help with gigs.
Wayne kicks ass!!!! We've had him in twice now at Mercury Lounge in Tulsa and he has torn it up both times. Helluva nice guy too, both him and the band are really laid back and fun to hang out with.
Well I will see yall in atlanta. I was supposed to play at laylas tuesday but they wanted 4 hours no breaks and for tips...... I said nah... thanks anyway.
when are you coming into town, i will be down wed. thru friday. we have a shop on 2nd and broadway. roberts western world, laylas, mercy lounge if there is something going on. you would think that there would be more rockabilly stuff but there aint. roberts is nice you can dance with a 75 year old woman while a group of japanese tourists drink beer with ice. let me know when you are coming down and i will show you around. rowdy
Well Walt, . . . Nashville is more about stock country, but you can start your search at Tootsie's Bar on lower Broad. Place is older than Hank Sr. and THE place to be seen here in town. Also, just around the corner is 'Printer's Alley", a back alley strip of nothing but joints. You'll find WHATEVER you're looking for right there bud. Just do yourself a big favor and don't wear a cowboy hat while you're here. We know a real one when we sees one. You'll enjoy Nashville. It's a great place to visit. I am originally from FL and relocated here (to play music) almost 20 years ago. I love it.
If your into a little more left field of country, Third and Lindsley can be refreshing. Lower Broadway is ok if you go from place to place. Some nights Ernest Tubb's record shop has live acts.Sparkxxx
Thanks for the help. I was just there in august and had a good time but felt like I was missing the real deal and was stuck in the tourist area. We will be in town wed. afternoon. My cell is 941-416-1819. I may be driving my tour bus. Anybody have a good place to park it? It was kinda tough to park there. I also saw a great bluegrass group called Silk and Saddle. the hottest female mandolin player ever..
Yes please no cowboy hats or those loud ass garth style shirts, Do they think we really dress that way?
walt you can park the bus at our shop, it is 209 2nd ave. south on the corner of 2nd and demonbreun, one block off of broadway. i will probably be down there, you are more than welcome to give me a call 615.310.9177. there is probably space in our lot depending on what is going on in the parking lot. you were asking where the local rockabilly folks hang out, i forgot about the station inn, there is usually something going on there. give me a call if you need anything.
Not in Nville but about 120 miles south in Huntsville Alabama. A small restrant/bar called of all things Rockabillys. The owners band the Cracker Jacks they played at the cruise in Jason and I threw. He has somthing going on every night. this area is not on the leval of Nashville but OK for this area. Not much but I thiught I would answer......Bobby...
