Thanks for the info there Lux Blue. I kinda thought 800 HP was excessive and 1500 sounded downright crazy! I can understand 250 being transfered thru the belt. and that brings up a thought, how much power can a belt like that handle? yup, whish I was there with you fellows. maybe someday. can't ever let those dreams die!
Anyone familiar with Chuck Tanko's WCI top fueler or the team from AZ? (Whoa...big pic...sorry bout that)
Only in America!!! Gotta love the Top Fuelers. And it all started when one caveman said to the other caveman..."My wheel faster than your wheel!"
lemme just throw some #'s in here. on a 4.50 p*** a fueler runs the 1st 60ft at .(that's POINT)880 seconds from a dead stop! that burns up 5 clutch discs per run. at 660 ft the record is over 280mph. the sarge ran over 337 mph in chicago this fall. all that happens while the rear tires only turn over 140 times from start to finish. oh. the sidewalls on those big*** rear tires are .010 in. yeah. 10 thousandths of an inch thick. the rim will turn 1/3 of a rotation before the car moves on the launch. here's the best part. when 2 fuelers launch together it registers 2.8 on the richter scale. yep. a minor earthquake. when bernstein ran 300 a LONG time ago that was with a 2.90 gear, 100% nitro, the blower set on KILL & who knows what else.(armstrong y'know) nhra has since mandated a 3.20 gear,90 then 85% nitro, i think 50 over on the blower, lower rear wing attack angles, & 8500 then 8400 rpm limits in an attempt to slow these boys down. there is a moratorium on engine development(don't do any!) they'll hit 340 next year & run in the 4.30's. good thing nhra slowed'em down huh? man i loves me a fuel warmup in the morning. WHUUUUUMMP!!!! the only thing better than pop is more
Saw Chris in Topeka probably the same year go past 200, the crowd (as they say) went nuts. I was 11, brother was 14, we got to wipe his slicks, something I'll never forget.
The smell of Nitro in the morning is better than any cup of coffee for waking you up. Personally, I like when we fire our car up in the driveway at home. The neighbors really dig it, at least most of them. New2U, you should come out and check us out sometime. I think we might be coming to OK sometime in the next few months to do some testing. We can almost always use an extra set of hands around the pits. PM about the stickers if you are serious. I'm sure we could find some room on the car for a sticker or two.
I totally agree. It looks like the nostalgia Funny Car scene is going to really take off. It's about time if you ask me. Might take a while to get a full field of competetive cars together, but what a sight that will be. I would love to see funny cars lined up on both sides of the track, all the way down. I know I have a pic somewhere of a race where that happened. A 32-car Funny Car field would be unbeleivable.
modern TF cars are amazing, especially considering how archaic the basic engine design is (pushrods, 2 valves, mechanical fuel delivery). no matter how much racing experience one has or what they've driven or wrenched a TF car gets thier full attention and respect at the hit. and they are very very impressive to drive, especially from the lock up on. the funny thing is that the most impressive part of the TF experience is the sound and fury, which is mostly absent from inside (they actually outrun the sound). from inside they are mostly smooth and sound like a ricer...... maybe I'm biased, but how could you find a stock car more impressive? definately a one off deal
