The HAMB has more tech than most mags. This post will just start a rant about how everyone hates magazines. Sorry but it is true......

American Rodder and Rodders Digest are my 2 alltime fav mags because of the tech and traditional focus. They are both "back" under Buckaroo publishing. They come out alternately every month. I just got my latest RD last night and the tech/ car detail content is awesome!

Trying to cut back on the defense- because for every ONE ***** post I get 10 pm's telling me differently. That's actually a lot because how often do you see a "I LOVE ****x Magazine!" post? Bash away, I know out of the 30 magazines I buy a month none are perfect (some are close- and others are, well- no comment).

  7. Agreed, RD is great. To me, car mags are like shows, there's stuff I don't care for at all and stuff I love. I just ignore the stuff that doesn't interest me and walk on to what does interest me (whether it's my feet or fingers doing the walking). Different strokes for different folks I guess.

    Buy OLD back issues.

Hot Rod up to the mid '60s,
Street Rod Magazine from the '70s,
    etc.

Most of those ( old 50's - 60's) don't get into detail too good. At least the ones I've seen.

  12. I thought the first couple of Old skool rods had informitive tech in them. First had a HOlley 94 breakdown if I remember correctly. In general the mag makes me look around to make sure no-one is watching though when I thumb thru it at the mag rack...

I have to agree with others above though in that the HAMB and the net in general may be the best for tech.. You can get multiple opinions, which is helpful after proper screening. Also if someone is plugging an XYZ product, it may have worked for them instead of them being "obligated" to promote being partially financed by said XYZ company (magazine ads).. Not a hit on the magazines, but is the sad truth..

I can't quit harpin' on Hot Rod magazine.

You won't find whitewalls or flat black on every page, but the content is amazing if you don't mind expanding your horizons a bit.

Plus, they are one of the few magazines covering any kind of land speed racing, let alone fielding a car. (Keith Turk- David Fburger 243mph Camero. Yea, I know, a Camero, but it's still cool.)

Belive it of not, Car Craft is real good right now also....Lots of low buck stuff that you can apply to your hot rod if you like to go fast.

    Check em out, -Abone.

I can't read and the photos don't explain much. I gave up when the Mags got big an wouldn't fit in my pocket!!!!!! :D

  15. The subscription to the HAMB is zero and the tech is the most of any mag!
Besides-when was the last time a mag answered your questions in a minute or less?:D

Just FYI, the Jalopy Journal is a webzine that Ryan owns. It is supposed to be updated in the near future. Ryan has a new addition to his family, so it may be a few more sleepless nights until he gets it updtaed. Check out the tech-o-matic archives on the HAMB for some good info.

  23. i dont think custom rodder is too bad...
theyve had some cool shoebox suspension
    stuff lately, nuthin ground breaking...
but still cooll. "kustoms illustrated" (the
little mag) was doin some cool old school
tech articles... i agree about the old magazines
though, heaps of cool (cheap)ways of doin stuff.

I get Street Rodder-mostly cause it has the most ads and a pretty good events scehdule/

I get Street Rod Builder-but it's not as good as it used to be-and i don't get it-the cars seem to be all built by people who already know how and are building them for someone else, but the ads are for people who might be actually building a car.

I subscribed to another mag-I can't even remember-what it hasn't started yet-because it was only 50 cents an issue and I figured I could get something out of it-and it came with a free hat-haven't gotten that either yet,.

I have to agree,Hotrod has really come on and is the magazine I look forward to most each month.

I forgot,I get Auto Restorer. Its a black and white paper style.I have to say it is very informative. The guy does great restorations, but it is more detailed towards cl***ic resto stuff, not Home built Hot rodding. There is great tool info and body work stuff that keeps updating with the latest materials and it tests alot of the new stuff. They usually tell it like it is,but I haven't heard them say bad things about any product. If anyone is into full resto's,you got to get this mag.Not much for gearhead/ hot rod/make your part fit/ stuff.

  26. the HAMB definately has the best tech section around...and as an added bonus, it will inform you if you are being an idiot. at no additional cost!
