Has anybody replaced the spare tire well on a 55/56? I can't find a replacement for it so wondering how you fixed yours? Anybody use one for another car or modified a motorcycle fender to work?

I've done quite a lot of rust work in my time, so I feel somewhat qualified to make suggestions even though I've not replaced the spare tire well on a '55-'56 Ford specifically.

In my opinion, your best bet is to cut the entire spare tire well from a donor car, including some of the trunk floor surrounding the well. You can then graft this entire piece into your car.

It will be worth your while to find the spare tire well from a '55 or '56 Ford - any p***enger car model will work, I think - rather than trying to adapt one from another make or model car or, more difficult still, attempting to make a motorcycle fender fit.

It might take longer and cost a bit more to get the right part, but you'll save lots of time and h***le in the long run.

    Good luck! :)

Thanks for the feedback. I am having trouble finding a donor in good shape which is why I was trying to find an alternative. Guess I will keep looking around.

I've got my parts car '56 hardtop but didn't look at the spare tire well & don't know how good/bad it is. If I get a chance I'll take a look this weekend & see what it looks like. If it's any good I'll take a few pics & send 'em to you. I'd have to cut it out but it's yours for shipping $$ if it's any good.

I checked the parts car today - bad news. The spare well isn't too solid, after I pulled the **** & crud out of it found considerable rust in the bottom. And Mr Squirrel didn't help much, he must have a bushel of acorns and hickory nuts stashed in it too!

Sorry to get your hopes up, I too hoped it was in better shape.

Jeff, I saw it but I need more in depth tutorial on how to really tackle it.

Don't know if you're still needing one, but I spotted a spare tire well on ebay this morning, #330390228297. Seems a bit pricey and it has a reserve but I don't know what's reasonable for a good one.

Ok well not sure what happened with Mark (55courier) but I haven't gotten any responses from him. Last message I got was that he had the stuff pulled but that was in January. SO, I still need a spare tire well, rear license plate bracket door, rear bumper brackets, front bumper, and a front cowl section to repair mine. Can Anybody help me out?
