Fake Buick brakes, fake worn paint, fake rust holes in fibergl*** bodies, fake generator cases hiding alternators, fake Olds valve covers. Is this traditional hot rodding?

fake cowboy presidents. . . fake "reality" t.v. . . . fake elections. . . fake terror threats. . . I build cars to get away from that stuff.. . .not a purist but the old parts are just more fun and satisfying. . . why would you want to miss out on that part of the hobby?

why not start searching for the coolest sbc covers you can find?

On the other hand all of this "rocket envy" just makes my car cooler!

  7. next time i build something with an sbc in it (not that i would in the first place), i will leave the plain steel covers on it, and no one will know what it is...

i think it's cool. I like the innovation. I think if they say oldsmobile on 'em then that might get a little cheezy but otherwise i think they look preety bad***.

I was wanting to do that too. How do they look under the loom? Are there a bunch of holes that need to be filled?

Here's my dad's Oldsmobile valve covers going on his '47 Hudson that I just finished painting. I put the black back-shadow on one side of the letters on the driver's side cover, and put the shadow on the opposite side of the letters on the p***enger's side cover, to look like the light was casting a shadow behind the letters when the hood is opened. Of course, no one would probably ever realize it, but I thought it would add a cool little effect. He made an adapter out of br*** bar stock on his mill. The engine they're going on is a late model SBC, with the center bolt valve covers. His are '54 original valve covers. In the third picture, the cover on top is the p***enger side, and he welded in a bung for a PCV valve. He welded a piece of stainless tubing on the driver's side cover for an oil fill.

Here's a couple of pictures of the air cleaner as well. It was part of a dual four barrel set-up on a factory Chrysler of some sort.

I would run these, but only on a stovebolt blue motor with "Blue Flame Eight" lettered on the wire looms.

SBC Pride. <-- we need a ribbon for this.

if you where stuck with a center bolt sbc I would run them but after I ditch the olds decal and stick a chevrolet decal on them.

the new center bolt heads there is not much choice for decent valve covers besides paying $120 for a set of adpters to run the old style.

for the price of $199 for polished with chrome wire covers they are pretty cheap.

  24. Those are ****ing GAY! If you want Olds rocker covers, then damnit, build and OLDS motor, it's **** like this that pisses me off to no end, ****ing poser.

Would they be "****ing gay" if he adapted an original set of Olds covers to a Chevy himself instead of buying them? Seems to me that it's about the same as putting a Caddy air cleaner on anything other than a Caddy. Shiney doesn't necessarily mean he's a poser anymore than patina means your ********.
