Four banger powered dragsters

Discussion in 'The Hokey Ass Message Board' started by Greg Stokes, Dec 8, 2005.

  1. Wondered if anyone here had any pics or info on Model A or B powered dragsters?

    Thanks,

    Greg

I haven't seen photos of the Mancillo brothers rail since Bill LaRosa was mailing out HOT LINE! Good to know someone else has a garage packed like mine.:D

  6. I was just going to mention a twin engined rail I saw at a So Cal. Throttler's meet some 10 years ago. That looks like it, very cool.

Greg. Damn, what is it going to take to convince you that an Olds Rocket motor is the only way to go.

I will shit stir even more:D a couple of years ago on Sky's Inside Dragracing I saw an Altered powered by a japanese boxer motor that did 9sec 1/4's and a prototype Funny car of a scaled up "H" badged coupe that had a 307ci four cyl, again scaled up "H" motor with twin hair dryers and run on nitro with big shots of laughing gas. Also not A or B motored, check out what some of the US VW guys are achieving in the 1/4:eek: .

Greg, the Mancillas Brothers are the guys I was telling you about with the A Altered at the antique drags, their shed is MUCH bigger than you see in those pics.

I found the pics the other day, I'll bring them to the drags.
Probably won't get there till Sunday now, not finished this weeks work, will see tomorrow.

There was a banger-powered rail on the cover of FAST a few issues back. Seem to remember there was daylight under the front wheels and it was on it's way to an 11.
I could be wrong but I think it used to belong to Jim Brierley (4-port Riley on here).

  15. No, that is Wayne, the car is on a huge table, underwhich is a complete, 28 A rpu.....

The Mancillo brothers are legends......and yes, the shed is much bigger, and equally packed with hot rodding stuff....

    Cheers,

    Hiya Drewfus,
It was a wind up about Noddy , a HAMBer and kiwi rodding legend who seems to be everywhere, there is a faint resemblance to him in one of the shots of Wayne. Yep , I can see Wayne is standing up in that pic, the place is head high in Hot Rods and I'd swear it takes up a city block....
The windup about Noddy, was really aimed at Greg ( foureverfour) .lol

You are right though the Mancillas' Bros are also bloody legends especially when it comes to fast A bangers.

I'm glad to see so much interest in the 4 bangers!

A mate of mine has bought an old 4 banger rail, apparently when last raced in the 60's it was running 10's on Nitro

    Keep the pics coming!

  19. Does anyone know how fast the Mancillo brothers rail above used to run?

She is for sale? Yes No?

  21. I havent blown up enough Model A motors yet! Nah, really, its just a bit of an idea that is gaining some momentum.

Saw the Mancillas twin engine deal at the California Hot Rod Reunion - would be really interested to know how fast it went! I know there altered ran 12's!

Wes Cooper also ran a four banger digger that I would also like to see a photo of.

I have a couple of blowers sitting here and also the front wheels from the old Mike Gearing dragster that Ray Peterson now owns. Also got a magnesium brake cylinder and some other bits and pieces here.

  22. This photo of a photo was from back in 1993.....the altered.

I'm not familiar with the times of any of the cars.....which aren't for sale.

    Cheers,

    Drewfus:)

Well, I've got one in the works. HA/GR style! I guess I should start posting 'updates' in the new year. Planning for original Miller rocker-arm OHV head and twin Miller up draft carbs on Miller manifold. B block, A frame, front/rear, B trans, early A wheels. I cant wait to start really working on this. BTW: I havent forgot about you REJ, we'll get together next week to get that frame. :)

It was never run in a sanctioned race.

  26. So is there any more Model A or B powered diggers out there.
I met an American guy that was selling a Model B dragster that was injected on nitro maybe its the same car.
Things have gained further momentum in our neck of the woods. Just need to finish the pick up build and then we are all good to go!

  27. absolutely awesome, and the shop, oh my...what I would do to have a 1/2 of scrounging in that place
