Billy, I don't get to say this often. Designing that car so the engine/transmission can be removed from the bottom was excellent, inspired work....
Removed all the transverse rear suspension and converted the '41 Merc to coil springs and tube shocks. Springs are Tru Coil 13"x5" 150#/in from...
Advancing a cam will always increase cranking compression pressure because the intake valve closes earlier, giving more cylinder fill at cranking...
It'll run great. You can chase "perfection" but likely end up right back where you are now. Well done.
As long as you don't chrome the inside it'll be fine. :D Seriously, the block and heads give up so little heat externally that it'll make almost...
Oops.....:(:D
"I used Nicop on my 40. I also used it on the fuel line. However, for the fuel line it had a black flaky stuff that clogged my fuel bowl within...
Right! For anyone who doesn't know, the lines are copper, nickle, steel. Not just copper/nickle.
Not a good sign. Beware-there may be ring/piston problems...if it will start you'll soon know, but it shouldn't be doing what you see now.
This^^^^^^ is what always works for me. Only 55 years experience so far so buyer beware.
A Holley 12-804 regulator is 1-4 psi adjustable and looks like the one nochop has on his firewall. I've mounted them on the front of cylinder...
Between .060” and .100” piston top to head quench area is bad for detonaton. Either machine to get .050” or less or stay over .100” and detonation...
I built a 260" 8CM (Merc version 8BA) for my '41 Merc. +.030" bore, Merc 4" crank, stock 8CM cam, block decked to get piston edges zero decked (...
If this 4 door isn't cool you may not be a car guy.:)[IMG]
Mine was like this one. [IMG]
Yeah, my Sun did too....and I miss it as well. Didn't have room for it but damn it was so handy.
Does it have a raster pattern setting as well? ( wave forms stacked)
Never , ever, test an alternator with the output wire unhooked and engine running. You'll destroy the diode trio and possibly the rectifier...
The original question....getting proper quench...is not going to be (easily) possible with the open chamber heads. Yes, you can get pistons to...
Yeah, you're welcome. From one sick bastard to another, thanks (I guess) for introducing all of us unsociable weirdo types to all the other...
Gary, sent you a PM.
Is something grounding the reel?
This ^^^^. Magazine or You Tube HP works very well at bench racing sessions.! :D
I'd suggest better heads and less cam. Less cam for sure, even if you keep your heads. That Comp Mother Thumper has 85 degrees of overlap and is...
Bill, if it had sleeves removed and was bored to fit 239 pistons, then another .030" is only .015" per side more. I'd say you'll still have good...
The OP stated he was concerned the lifter on #7 (not just the rocker) might be bad. I simply told him how to remove it without having to pull the...
If it's #7 it'll be easy to pull the distributor and remove that lifter from its bore with a magnet, retrieve it from the dist hole and inspect...
It would be interesting to closely inspect the other blades at the same point of failure on the hub to see if any show evidence of distress.
Yep, Jim's correct. That blade's been broken long enough to show rust in the cracked part. The last half inch has been holding it.
A '61 Galaxie won't have a 170. If it's a six I believe it'll be a 223, and no interchange of those parts with a 170 or a Falcon.
