Sometimes tapping on the starter with a hammer, tap, not pound, helps. I had a truck that sat a lot and had to do that every so often.

I like the buzzer idea! I soldered long wires to an old brake light bulb for testing. Can be seen better than a test light.
Used dryer sheets make good filters so do coffee filters and old nylons
