i always heard a saginaw 4 speed would be distroyed by a 454. is it ok to run a saginaw with a big block in a lite car like a roadster?
This may be a long shot.... but is your pvc valve clogged. a clogged pvc valve would may the engine run harder thus increasing exhaust temp
It may be running real lean (too much air not enough fuel) , with the motor running spray it with starting fluid or parts washer around the intake...
