Tape measure from center of one hole to outer edge of the other should give you a read, if not 4.25, 4.5, 4.75, then probably a metric pattern.
Peen the inner area and use bearing loctite. If you know a machinist, he may have an ID knurlering tool, which will be easier than peening.

Yes, in fact I pulled a 3.08 out of a 55-59 (had no front sheetmetal on it) for my '57 when we put the BB in it...didn't last too long though;)
Too much...look for early 60's GMC's, you'll have to relocate the perches, but GMC's had many ratios available, last I used was a 3.54 posi D44...

The large truck fenders don't have the "cutout" down low in the front for the bumper brackets to slide through.

I wouldn't worry about soldering the connections, they'll out last your life time. I soldered the connections on my Dad's Peterbilt for al 4...
I thought they have to do with the SB 400 due to the siameses bores. I wasn't aware they were done so early though.
