I lived in North Tonawanda, NY as a kid in the 50's and 60's. The local dragstrip was in Niagara Falls where there were alot of great gassers....

I had a pair of those shoes, we called them "Snap Jacks". Yes, they did press down on the top of your foot!
I ordered 2" lower front springs for my '50 Chevy on 3/12 and received them today 3/26. No complaints here! Bruce
