The Jalopy Journal
Volvobrynk, I'll try to take some engine photos this weekend. It's likely too overcast today for decent ones. Well, shortening the frame is out....
That sounds cool!
Um, sorry, I double checked and that is the actual weight of those trucks empty. This one likely can tow over 10,000#, although with the 245ci...
Time to start planning on collecting old cabs in order to build this. It's the nicest looking version of this phantom I've yet to see.
Wow!!! VERY nice. Subtle, but the difference is there, I think. Thank you!!
No, I wasn't planning on hauling a trailer, actually the idea of the flatbed is appealing to me in that, you have the use of a large trailer space...
Thanks for that tip, I'll check to see that happens when I get to that point.
Thank you for the warning. Don't want either of those things happening and with my chicken wings, I'D easily be the one flipping over the jammed...
I agree with you on that idea, that seems like it should be a common sight.
Not sure I have stands that hold up 6000# That's the vehicle weight. I'm waiting until the owner gets back and we decide to do or not do...
I'm sure getting antsy for the shop owner to get back in town and get his engine hoist back from a relative. Clearly I need a physical task to...
Message heard. It's part of the decision making process when you don't know what you're doing. An opportunity arises and you have to weigh what...
I'm curious now to check out the truck and see if there are alternate mounting holes for the spring perches.
Noted this....
I'll keep that list handy. Lots of possibilities once I get this engine running.
Lots to think about there. Thanks for the input.
Could you explain, in gory detail if you'd like, what sort of trouble a wheel leads to vs. a sawzall? Frankly, I've used a sawzall on something...
:D LOL, I'm fortunate to be parked at someone's mega garage (he has a 4 point lift inside), and he has some equipment, so I'm likely wanting to...
I have pics on a thread I started here: http://www.jalopyjournal.com/forum/threads/in-for-a-penny-in-for-2-tons.991978/
Well, that would still entail removing one of the 3 driveshafts on this unit. It's 195" wb and a 2 speed rear axle with dual wheels.
Thanks Peanut. I don't recall seeing that model, but I was interested in versions that didn't have that front slant to the rear door window. I...
I thought so, sorry. I'll try to find something larger.
I'm pretty sure I have access to a Sawzall, but I am curious as to the difference in doing this with a Sawzall vs. a grinder with a cutting blade....
Ok, after reading Coconuts' post, now I understand what you two are referencing. I remember watching a video for a long bed Chevy truck to short...
Thank you for this information. This is the sort of input I was fishing for.
I'm not sure which diagonal you're referring to, vertically from top to bottom of the frame, or along the width of the metal gauge? Sorry if that...
Interesting thought. It's likely way over my capabilities, but maybe not. This puppy has 3 driveshafts and a 195" wb, so there's definitely room...
Another thought that I wondered what it would look like. If you did extend the cab size in this design, how would you go about making the roof...
I have a very rough looking truck similar to this image. Could I see one with an extended cab or a mordor version?[IMG]
Total newb to this process, but I have a 26' long truck that I'm considering lopping off 4' off the back of the flatbed. It's a standard C...
