i used a model A wishbone on my roadster, I cut it to make the caster angle better. worked just fine.

I used regular sized blocks on my truck and milled slots in them for the U-bolts, worked fine.

I've had the same problem with my flatty, I just put four in and add when I need to, my dip stick always shows way full.
