it's been a while, but on a 28/29 i believe the radiator and gas cap look the same and have the same threads....except the radiator is not vented...
just a small hole through the center, use some cleaner as suggested and poke it with a wire
those 3 holes are for 1/4" flathead bolts that basically help hold the wood in. the little piece inside the pocket is what the door latch closes...

i've always ground them as blackjack said if you don't grind them i don't think you'd have any problems, maybe just a little harder to get apart...
