The Jalopy Journal
Man I wish I had that kind of luck. I paid too much for these damned things. But I've always wanted them so I don't have any regrets.
I only have a pair, so I'll just be running them in the rear. But if you know of another one of these 18" wide fives, let me know haha I'm...
I appreciate that, it's certainly worth looking into.
If these were 16s, that would be a good option. However, these wheels are 18s, and with an uncommon rim inner diameter, so I am not sure that's an...
Nice work!
The threaded rod idea is great. I'll make one up with acorn nuts at each end to get the most accurate measurement.
Yeah, most lathes won't have that much swing. That's something I'd expect to have to bring to a shop with some bigger equipment. I have a feeling...
Narrowing a rim shouldn't cost too much. It would be easy to section one on a lathe and weld it back up. If I could find a rim that had the right...
I don't mean to offend, but I think I'm safer on some old rotten originals than some brand new steelies from India. I've searched all of the...
No, they take the same size hub caps. The "spokes" are longer than the 16" version, but the center pocket is the same diameter.
I'll check again when I get home from work, but I remember measuring exactly 16". So far I haven't found a wheel with the same rim inner diameter.
Those wheels and your car look great by the way. I'll try to find a suitable set of donor wheels as well, in case the straightening doesn't work out.
That is cool, I didn't know about this tool. Thank you.
Hell yeah, that's what I like to hear
I really appreciate all of the input. I've decided that I'll run them with the existing rims. Does anyone know of a good shop that can straighten...
I drive hard, but not that hard haha
The hoop failing is my only concern. I'm not worried about the bead sealing since I'll be using tubes.
I fastened each side together with four 10-32 machine screws. Nylock nuts are best for these so they don't vibrate loose.
I would either get a shoulder screw that you can thread into the block, or machine a pin that has a running fit with the minor diameter of those...
I searched for 10 years to find a pair of 18-inch wide five wheels for my 39 Ford pickup, and a local friend of mine found a couple for me. The...
Fixed a rear main seal leak and replaced the wide-ratio 4 speed with a fresh T5. I used some sway bar mounts and it turned out pretty clean...
Two Borg Warner R10 early overdrive transmissions. They are missing solenoids. 8BA/8CM bellhousing included.
The bell housing and spark plug looms are gone, but everything else is still available.
It's all gone.
Sold.
[ATTACH] I like them face-down, ass-up
Sale pending on block, crank, pistons, and rods. Here are some more detailed photos of the other parts. Make me an offer!
Lot of 1949-1953 stock Mercury and Ford flathead parts: • Block - small crack in water jacket on right side, otherwise in immaculate condition....
I've been looking for a pair of 18" wide fives for eight years. If anyone's holding, please let me know.
Thanks again. I was on the fence for a while about that, but 700s seem to be just right for these fenders.
