I had same problems with 600cfm Edelb. Put fuel pres.regulator on and ended my problem. From what I've read 7,8 psi is to high .

What fuel pump are you using ? Try a pressure regulator and set it at 4 psi. That's what I had to do on my 305 sbc with stock fuel pump and 1406...

Back in the early 60's I pulled a 2 horse trailer with a 57 chevy wagon ,283 stick shift with overdrive,all stock. Loaded probably about 3500 lbs....
