Don't forget that two barrel carbs are rated differently than four barrel carbs. A 500 cfm two barrel does not flow as much as a 500 cfm four barrel.
That thing has somewhat of an industrial compressor look to it. Is the case aluminium or cast iron and what was is it attached to?

I have an old MAS tube axle that looks almost identical to your's, but has better welds. My guess is you have an MAS axle.
