I have a 351cleveland in my 56, it fits(just barely). I am running 3.80 gears in an 8" behind a close ratio toploader 4-speed, 70mph @3200rpm's...
It's called a "sequential vortex" and its just part of hotrodding. Larry
For the street the 8354 would be the distributor, vacuum advance and you don't need a separate ign box Larry

Sounds like the female conector in the plug is not making good contact and the added resistance is making heat and melting the cap. Larry
