Shims went between spring pad on rear end and spring in front or behind center bolt.
I think you should change rear axle angle and test it since it was changed too
I fixed a 78 ford pickup in early eighties hit in rear axle put a new housing and axles chased a bad vibration went thru everything you have...
Steering wheel and dash had a gold base under candy red or was it blended gold to red

It's why you could not find parts you need when you need and why some younger hot rodders gave up on pre 48 cars. So now we have mostly older guys...

Yes add it where you need just be mindful of not sanding pipe too thin. blend to start with 80 grit and then something like 180
Think it needs flux unless it's coated with it already
