Rear end is supported by stock 64 Corvair springs, 409 has alloy heads and intake manifold, yes it is a bit scary to drive . :(
Yes ,but it is beefed up , no troubles for over 10 years.

Both go extremely fast , the sedan 409 is a bit scary at speed , but the 64 convertible is a real nice ride :)
All is well with the 409 Corvair , no breakage yet, terrible mileage tho :(

I'm thinking you still have some crud in the carb, take it apart and reclean carefully.
