I think the pits on the ribs will go away with enough sanding. Most of the pits on the corners will also come out. It just comes down to how much...
Those pits are caused by what is known in the casting world as "sand inclusion". As the molten metal is traveling across the mold it picks up...

Aluminum melts around 1200 F so it had to be at least that hot for the carbs to melt.
Looking at the side shot of the black car it appears that the nose would be way too large if the hood followed the line of the cowl.

I use simple green with a stiff bristle brush on both white and black walls. Zaino Z16 is a great tire dressing to follow up with.
Love their Wimbleton white. Used it on my firewall.
