you state the rear cylinders are you think 3/4.I would confirm that and look at a 13/16 or 7/8

one thing it would be a good idea to fit a big flat blade (wide and thick) to do the nut up.they sell a tool but it is almost useless as it has...
I think welding and then the effort of finishing them too would be a huge effort.easier and more practical to seam seal.no worries about burn...
you will be good as the 6 volt drew (draw) a higher amp load on switch
