is that I-beam cast of forged?

while the A spindles could be used....i suggest you use `37-`48 spindles. there are more disc brake kits available and you can also bolt on...
have you tried adjusting them? maybe the rocker balls are worn out or the studs are pulling out
take out that used lifter , and get a new replacement lifter
for many years i've always made my own cables out of 1 or 2 gauge cable , and always crimped them and then used some heat shrink on the ends....

what you plan on using for wheels/tires and their offset is one thing to consider when selecting the axle width. if you will have fenders or not...
