That's the lever I used. It puts the knob in a comfortable position, but it's just about under the seat.
I guess it's possible the trans sits further back when mounted behind a y block. That's what I'm running.
I'm assuming you're using something other than the stock Mustang tail section. My shifter is almost under the seat.

I wonder why they left the bumper guards on the front but eliminated them in back. I like the clean look without them.
Are there actually differences in the kick panels for 55-56 cars. Mac's has different part numbers for the same colors for sedans and hardtops.
I was able to center the steering shaft using shims and heating the top of the frame rail and hammering it down until I had the needed clearance.
Gutters would be roof color on a Customline.
I had to open up the holes, use washers and heat and hammer down the top of the frame rail in order to get my shaft centered in the dash opening...
