i believe the solinoid is on the drivers side fender i had a 55 also and it wouldnt crank i cleaned the terminals on the sol. and it did the trick

So it was 91 here today and i drove the biscayne and damnit it was hot ...do yall drive in the heat
well took it off and threw on a 3 wire that i had and go figure the three wire worked great wooohoooo
maybe this will help i think 61 and 63 are the same...
i cut it all out thinking this single wire would be better
well the old one was a three pronger so i got all the old wires
yeap tryed that at higher rpms and the gd thing still only put that much out...soooo how do i wire a normal 3 wire
ok i have one on my 61 on a sbc and the damn thing wont charge anymore than 12.85 volts what gives
