The Jalopy Journal
Found out two of the cylinders had some rust so we'd need to bore to fix that anyway. I think I'm getting the 390.
That ship has sailed as the motor is already torn down. The shop evaluated to see what the condition was. The engine is 60 years old, and the car...
This is a highly reputable restoration shop so I'm no worried about a cheap rebuild.
So it's been a while but I have a shop looking at the engine now. Here are the options they gave me (this is my original 1960 Starliner engine):...
I also recall it was one of the longest two door production cars that Ford ever built. It barely fits in my garage.
Engines been out of the car for a couple years so can't check compression (it's my understanding you need to turn it over to do so).
Mileage on the odometer is ~60K, but it could be 160K (it would flip over at 99,999). Although the most recent date associated with the car was a...
You've all convinced me to keep the 352 and rebuild, perhaps with some minor upgrade. Given that I'm adding air I think that would be good anyway....
It is a factory 352 cu in 4 barrel low compression. Transmission is factory automatic (Crusie-O-Matic). Rear is 2.91 as fastcar1953 mentioned.
Thanks for this. I've got a email out to my neighbor who has rebuilt some engines. If he can help me rebuild it perhaps I don't need to do much else.
I honestly just don't know what it's capable of. The only time I drove it was the 4 miles to my house from where it was dropped off by the freight...
I want to go a little larger on the wheels (it has 15 all around, probably go 16 in front and 17 in the back to improve the stance) along with...
Thanks. The engine was running fine when I got it but as soon as you took your foot off the gas it would stall out. It might have been bad gas...
I wish I had more know-how and time but I'm going to leave this part up to the professionals. The shop has a great reputation and I don't want to...
It's been a slow build as my metal guy has been taking him time. No worries on my end as I'm not paying for storage. A few pics post blasting and...
I misspoke. It's a Y code from the serial number. This corresponds to a 352 4 barrel engine.
Age old question I know but here goes anyway. I'm finally moving forward with my 60 Starliner and the first consideration is do I want to rebuild...
Thanks.
I saw the classified but didn't realize that is was also for people wanting cars too. Assumed there would be a separate board for that. Thanks.
Been a loooonnnnnnggg time since I posted here. I've looked around and can't find a specific "Looking for a _______" car board. Is there such a...
Thanks for all the advice. I've applied for insurance and had the local sheriff come by and sign the state's VIN verification form. As soon as I...
Thanks for all the advice. So is the fact that I have the title and a bill of sale not enough to show ownership? As Airborne34 mentions, I believe...
Thanks for this. This makes me feel a lot better. I'd rather just keep the title and not register it until I get to where ever we are going. I've...
Thanks. I'm restoring the car, it does not run, so getting insurance might be an issue (?). I was told a few years ago when I talked to the DMV...
Problem is that I don't know where and when we would move. We will have to go where the jobs are and it's not job season yet for my line of work....
So other states would accept my AL registration? There is nothing that I can find that says I have to give up the title I have.
Thanks for the advice but Alabama does NOT title cars over 35 years old. My options are to register now or title after I move to another state...
Hi all. It's been some time since I posted seeking advice but I've made significant head way on my 60 Starliner and it's almost ready to send off...
Thanks for all the advice. In defense of my Uncle, he knows I have a budget and am limited on time so I think that a low cost unit would...
In addition to the some major panel repair/replacement on my Starliner I've also got several areas that require only minor surgery. I've got no...
