Right on, '55 and '56 GMC respectively had the 287 v8 and 317 v8 and the trucks often had a manual tranny. Never robbed parts from a GMC though.

If it's power brakes, then the fluid resivoir is in front of the power brake booster unit. Look low on the firewall below the "black box" heater...
