I've seen that happen when guides were put in crooked then the seats were finished to match. check everything mentioned and good luck with it!
baddest bucket in my area is owned and driven by a guy in his 70's...was built in Michigan I believe. twin turbo small block chevy with factory...
get a longer pilot bushing..commonly used with mid plate mounts. Speedway or some other race supplier should have it.
