Looks like a 56-57 Hudson wheel to me one on ebay right now...
Take the starter out. Rotate the mounting plate on the starter 180 degrees. put the starter back in. try again.
If you get desperate, I have a few extra Hudson tanks that are in decent shape for not a lot of money. Not sure what rules are on shipping used...
It may seem like an obvious question, but have you tried to find a Hudson gas tank?
Neal What years of Hudson column's are you using? I have a bunch of them sitting on a shelf I will never use.
It is a 308. You can tell by the extra reinforcement rib. Very common to find 262 heads on 308 motors to increase compression
