I'm Sorry. I thouht it said what did I learn at the Drive-in!!!! 57 Ford Ragtop was my first car.
It will fit if the y-block has a spin on filter, the early y's had a cannister filter, but these can be changed to spin on.
Also, I might have missed this. What are you going to use for drive line, and steering?

I often use 58 hoods on my 57"s. I like the low hood scoop, it should be easy to make a custom scoop using a 58 hood.
It sounds like a cracked flex plate to me, put it in gear and hold the brake, see if the noise changes.
