No, didn't have to do anything. After I welded the race, I turned the steering box over, and after it cooled the race was sitting on the garage floor.
I welded a small bead inside the race, once the weld cooled the race fell out.

40 thru 47 tapered shafts are the same. I just used a 47 steering shaft with a 39 banjo wheel. Not sure on the trucks.

After you rule out the cooling system, double check your timing. It can also cause the engine to run hot. Good Luck.
