Since there has ben a posting about whats happening here in Sweden regarding "winter activities", I'd just like to complete the picture with a short report from ?the first? Winter Hot Rod Meet in Sweden, March 20-22 2009. Activities were: 1, Racing. 2. Racing and 3, Racing All on Lake Åre which is located 600 km north from Stockholm. Åre is the biggest ski area in Sweden, but it´s time to change that! YouTube: Seach for "ice lake hotrods" or "Åre hotrods" Film: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_Ixj6xHyqhQ Gallery: http://www.slingshot.st/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=407 Some images below...
I take it that you got that A coupe out? not the conventional 'car bogged' that I'm use to, but probably a bit easier to work with than mud., least you can see what your doing. or is that an unconventional snow plow?
Uffda! Good clean fun, zesty nordic air, and an aquavit chaser. Do you use studs, chains, or neither?
We use "rallye wheels". They are basically gravel road tires with about 500 studs per tyre. Each stud (when fresh) is about 6 to 8 mm "in the air". Since you ask about the climate: Some of us did a "warm-up" (or was it "cool down"...) in February on a more narrow track. It was _really_ much snow, all powder! It was also more fun than it looks on the images!! I include an image below from the "warm up". A photo album from that day is found here: http://www.slingshot.st/gallery/thumbnails.php?album=405&page=1&sort=da I'm the guy with the T-bucket and 4 rear wheels. At the occation above I did not have four wheels at rear. The four wheel was an addon that was completed just in time for the "Åre Ice Lake Race event". I can tell you it worked really well, compared to the others cars at the dragracing contest
Yes, no problem! We had 2 rescue cars that lurked around the track the whole day in order to help everyone The A coupe was bought in N.Y. by an L.A guy. A friend of mine flew from L.A to N.Y and drowe the car back to L.A in about 5 days. That was about 4 years ago. So, yes, the car is really driveable and is being used quite a lot here in Sweden (mostly in the summers...)! The car was sold to Sweden about 2 years ago.
i hate snow, its cold and wet. lol. but if i was there, i could learn to love it. that looks like great fun. thanks for sharing. the bucket rocks and looks like a mean ride.
ha ha! That looks like fun! It's great to see folks actually driving cars in weather that make most "car guys" balls shrivel and dick retract like a turtle head. Glad to see you're getting those cars out in the weather and having fun!
I could agree with you. But since I have choosen to stay where I live, I just have to live with it... But I really regret that I "discovered" the "winter hot rod season" just a few years ago, and not earlier in life. It's incredibly cool to drive on ice tracks. There is no dirt at all, you just get a little bit wet and cold sometimes. The car has no heating problems at all And the absolute coolest thing is that you can drive the car in a way that is totally impossible in summer, without being so worried about damage and crashes!! ... unlerss your car is made out of sugar.....
look like way more fun then about 90% of the u.s. events, except for the snow. great to see the cars actually getting used
We will definitively try to arrange this next year! Environmental rules regarding Lake Åre is however getting tougher and tougher, but we will try to manage them (and the persons behind then... )
