Gearhead is owned by a person that has never built a car. Most of their stuff is Chinese. Cheap is cheap if that’s what you want.
I have read somewhere that "Shadow Rods" rails have the best duplication of the original reveal, in the sides of the frame rails. That doesn't surprise me, considering the owner of "Shadow Rods" has been called one picky person! All his components are spot on!
60: You are right. When John Hall bought the stamping dies from the original company he redid them. They were nice pieces in the beginning bu even better when John got finished. The original concept behind the idea was to produce a product that could be shipped by UPS or Fed X ground and avoid high priced truck freight. The original manufacturer didn't produce them for very long. The 2 or 3 sets I bought and****embled worked and looked really good. I wonder what the current prices are for the perimeter frame? They listed the price at $2690 but the website might not have been updated for awhile?
Interesting thread. When I built my frame, ensuring the reveal was correct was important to me. I chose JW's Garage, for at that time, their stampings had the best reveal from what I was able to gather. I would be really interested in seeing rails from Shadow Rods. All of the stuff that he has be involved with has been really nice.
If I remember correctly it was Precision underbody or something similar out of West Branch Michigan that originally did the two piece rails.
