So I’m ready to install the front seat on my ‘39 Coupe project. The mounting holes are approximately 36” across and approximately 12” front to back. The floor was replaced on my coupe so I’m not sure how or where exactly it was mounted. Looking under the car at the chassis there are 2 capture nuts in the chassis that are marked (presumably by the individual that put the floor in) “seat nut” however the distance between the nuts is only 20” across. I don’t see any other nuts or holes in the chassis that would line up with the seat holes. As far as I know the seat is correct for the car. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks!

I’m guessing that nut is not a seat nut. I’d suggest placing the seat on the floor where you are most comfortable. If you are rather tall, adjust the seat tracks to a backish position. If you are shorter put them forward. That way you and any other drivers will be comfortable. Not necessarily the same as a fella in 1939. Make sure to add some doubler braces to strengthen the floor.

BTW, I think that is a 1940 seat, not 1939. But I would bet the mounting holes would be in the same place.

The '39 coupe seat back is not split like what you have. The '39 coupe seat back is hinged at the top to a package tray and folds up for access to a storage area between the seat and the trunk.
Your seat might be from a 2 door sedan.

Oh thanks for all the valuable information. I’ll most likely stick with this seat as it’s a budget build and seems to fit the traditional look I’m going for.

On the plus side if one hole on each side works
you only need to drill one more on each side. And it’s from the top down. No laying on your back swearing.
