The progression of my OT street strip car was right at 100mph at 14 flat. About 105 for 13 flat, 112 at 12 flat, 120 at 11 flat, 135 at 10 flat, and 143 at 9.70.
For you guys that run higher top end speeds, if you work on getting the car to leave hard in the first 60 feet, the ETs will get better. For a 14 second car with a 2.5 second 60 foot, cutting that to 2.25 would make nearly a half second over the quarter. Maybe more.
At around 10 flat, on my car, a difference between a 1.45 sixty and a 1.40 sixty makes nearly a tenth difference at the end.
This is a stick shift car. So there's a balance between tire slip, clutch slip, launch rpm and launch boost

I have only read once where a guy ran a little lower gear [.300 lower] for the 1/8 verses the 1/4, all else being the same in the car?

All the same. Car is geared to run about 7800rpm at 140. It has a 4.57 ring gear, a 3.33 first, and an 0.93 high gear. It just gets into high gear at the eighth marker, running about 110.
It's fairly efficient with the gearing it has. If it were to be geared lower overall, the launch would be affected...probably overpowering the tires. Then the 1-2 shift would come maybe a bit more than a second into the run. Before the 60 foot timer.
Besides that, turbos like a load. Probably wouldn't be any quicker.
I'd imagine that there are those that gear only for the eighth. A lot of those 10.5 tire guys only run eighth. So maybe something there.

a friend inadvertently taught me how to go faster and overcome tire spin. he would always get me at the start by a good distance, then I'd p*** him like we were not even racing. my 400 Pontiac/ 4 speed againsts a 351/ Ford auto.
one time I decided to go easy on him and stayed even in first gear then beat him even worse than usual.
my city built all the streets in what is now a busy industrial area way before there were any buildings there.
there was even a marked quarter mile. even in the middle of the day nobody was out there.

    fun times!
