My wife just calls it bullshit Actually my wife is a bad ass who doesn't really care what comes home or how often. She does sometimes hate to see them leave, I don't really have that problem. My son and I drove this 61 around yesterday for a couple hours, in a rougher part of town, scouting for more ol Ford pickups. I guess it ends when you die HAHAHA
I like the pic with the tree, but it would be killer with a live tree. And get both kids in the pic somehow, they’re both cute!
We used a real tree last year, that ultimately ended up in our house. This year, because of some schedule conflicts, it was too early to go get a real tree. So we used the “ever-gleam” tree that my wife’s grandparents bought new. We used to use this silver in our house, but with the kids so young we didn’t want one of them to damage it. So the past few years we have used real trees Also, these were not the actually pics, just some I shot on my phone. We are all in the pictures in the ones the photographer took
I sent a Christmas card to the PO Box I found for the farmer who owned the 61. I included a note saying who I was and asked if anyone had any pictures or stories about the truck or it’s owner Ken. Last night I talked to Ken’s daughter. She told me she washed and waxed that truck every year, and that is was used to maintain and fuel equipment, pull the combine header to field, plow and apparently their road was muddy in the spring because he used it to pull stick cars along the road. She text me these pictures, showing the truck doing exactly what I pictured it doing. The 3rdt picture is the truck earlier this year, drug out to be cleaned up and sold. She said Ken died 15 years ago, Mom last year. The last picture is the Christmas card.
I finally broke down and painted a set of wheels for this thing. The original white paint wheels I put on it were just too crusty for this truck. Washed a wheel well the other day as well, hopefully soon it will warm up enough I can really clean on this thing.

My first truck was a light blue 62 4X4 F-100 Long bed Flareside that I bought in 1979. It was not 1/2 as nice as yours, and it was in pretty good shape for it’s age! Awesome find, happy it ended up with someone who really appreciates it.
What an awesome truck. It seems like it went to the right caretaker. That is the type of find I dream of - well cared for patina, not left for dead patina. When I was a child my grandfather had a 61' F-250 long bed step-side. Two wheel drive, three on the tree. He worked for Timken Bearing and always raised livestock on the side. I doubt that old truck went more than twenty five miles from home the entire 17 years he owned it. Mostly just back and forth from the house in a little town, to the rented barn a couple of miles away. The work commute was 60 miles each way, so that was done in a new Ford car bought every other year. Good memories.
I am not a fan of 4x4, but I fell for this little charmer in an instant. I have had two 61's and love the body style. Amazing find and wishing you many moments of pleasure with this beauty.
I actually just sold it. I enjoyed owning it and making it a little bit better. It went to a guy who had one at 17 years old and always wanted another one. He is retirement age now. This truck deserved an owner like that. This is his only old vehicle.
