Hello guys. I need a bit of help on the following. 1940 Ford Car is 12 volt, negative ground. I would like to install 12 volt, self-regulated 1 wire alternator with correct shaft for large flathead belt pulley. 1 What is the part number for an appropriate 65 amp internally regulated (1) wire alternator to fit the sling-shot style bracket for the flathead? 2 What is the proper wiring set up for this application? (not using stock regulator). 3 Would like to work with someone who has done this with good results. 4 Results should be an alternator that charges around 13.8 with a new battery +/-.
Any 10 SI frame alternator will fit that bracket. One wire alternators are generic except for the clocking of the plug. Most you re-clock to your needs if the plug is in the wrong position. What you are really hunting for is a wide belt pulley that fits on a 10 Si alternator that you can stick on one. That way you aren't paying a premium for an "OMG this is a special flathead one wire alternator". Side note, if you don't have to have a chrome case you can walk into a Ford New Holland tractor dealer and get a one wire alternator for a 9 N tractor as that was what one wire alternators were designed for in the first place. They were farm equipment conversion alternators long before they got popular for hot rods. NEW 1 WIRE 12V 63AMP ALTERNATOR FITS FORD 2N 9N TRACTORS REPLACES GENS AKT0001 | eBay
yesterdaystractors.com has them with the wide pulleys for the early Ford tractors, I put one on my 8N and another on my 850, IIRC about $85. Nice thing too, they charge from idle, don't have to rev it up
