I'm trying to find out what is the outside diameter of the spline on Chevy 10-spline transmission shafts? Also what is the width of the splines? Are all Chevy 10-spline input shafts the same diameter and width? Does anyone know what the diameter and width is on the 10-spline input shaft used in the 1960 Corvair? I need a 10-spline shaft that is about 1.060 outside diameter with about .160 wide splines and I don't know what to look for. <style></style>Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks .. Ray
I think most (if not all) early chevy input shafts, at least around the 1960s are 1 1/8" (1.125") in diameter, but they are all 10 spline. Knowing what you are trying to achieve will make answering your question a lot easier.
I put an 38 Chevy transmission on the back of my model T engine as an auxiliary transmission. The drive shaft U-joint on the auxiliary trans is for a 10-spline shaft. I need a 10-spline shaft that I can cut off and adapt to the front of the model T driveshaft so it will fit into the U-joint. I've been looking for a 30's Chevy drive shaft tube but haven't found one yet and wondered if I could use some other 10-spline shaft.
even a 1988 chevy truck can share that 10 spline pattern, very common. I mated a sag 4 speed to a stock 88 chevy 11" clutch. get a clutch pilot tool, cheap, and try it out before you go digging at the s**** yard.
