You know, I used to think the P-51D Mustang was one of the most common and boring aircraft from the Second World War, but now that I'm older I can really appreciate the lines of what is really a beautiful aircraft.

I hope they fire 'em all up and do m*** flyover. The sound of:1 Merlin engine x 100 P-51 Mustangs = wait a minute, I have to go clean myself. The sights and sounds of that day will be the last time on this earth it happens. Go if you can. Go for me, cuz I sure can't.

As a ex-com pilot i love anything that gets off the ground. But WAR BIRDS are the Hot Rods of the sky. That picture is like airplane ****!;)

Oh that would be one awsome display to see, especially if you get the chance to talk to the old guys.

A must see for sure if your in the area. I'm fortunate to work
next to Kermit Weeks Fantasy Of Flight attraction and the last
2 weeks have been filled with Mustang flybys as he readies his
two (a B model, and D model). Nothing quite like the roar of the
Merlin at full song or prop tips going supersonic. Still manages
to raise the hair on my arms as they make another tree top p***
even though I'm hopelessy spoiled to be able to see this time and
time again.

I'm reminded of the day I watched a frail old black man struggle
to make the 20 feet from the street to the office at our RV park.
His son had brought him on a pilgrimage to see the P51B that had
recently arrived next door. After spending the morning as guests
next door they returned to the park and the son related to me
how they managed to hoist his father into the ****pit for the
first time in like 60 yrs. How he could still close his eyes and
identify all the different controls on board. The old man was
seemingly transformed as he related his time as a Tuskegee
pilot. Later on as this polished to perfection red-tailed Mustang
took to the sky I drove by their motorhome to see this hunched
over frail guy from that morning sitting arrow straight on a picnic
table watching intently as Kermit bored holes in the sky for a
good half an hour. Much like our beloved Hot Rods, its all about
man and machine.

I was thinking of going to this on Sunday. That first picture pretty much confirms the notion.

Maybe I can get some neat shots of the '32 with the planes.

10. Man.......that would be cool.

11. Yeah Fantasy of Flight is a great place, quite inspiring to see everything that goes on there. Kermit is a first cl*** guy.

Wish I had known sooner, I would have loved to take in that show. We have one near us every year, but not nearly as many Mustangs. But we do have several Mitchell B25's which are my favorite war bird.

There is a guy around my town who left this early morning for that, I heard him fire up the plane and fly it around town for a about 20 mintues today(I work real close to the airport here)

Take tons of pictures and I can pretend to make the noises since I wont be there!

What a Beautiful show of War birds.

I have to agree that the P51 is the hotrod of the sky, open headers and all. High speed flybys are a sight (and sound) to behold.
...I just wish I lived a couple thousand miles closer

Anybody with a Veteran father or grandfather that fought for our freedom may wish to watch the video that Stroked supplied (above). (jmho, but Support our troops, past, present and future)

I'll bet it brings a tear to the eye of those that were there and heard the re***uring sounds of the Merlin engines overhead during the height of combat. The P51 Mustang stands as a tribute to all those that stood their ground and fought for the Democracy and freedom that we have today.

Thanks for posting the vid and thanks to oldchevyseller for starting this thread.

"""Luftwaffe pilots attempted to avoid US fighters by m***ing in huge numbers well in front of the bombers, attacking in a single p***, then breaking off the attack, allowing ******ing fighters little time to react. While not always successful in avoiding contact with ****** (as the tremendous loss of German pilots in the spring of 1944 indicates), the threat of m*** attacks, and later the "company front" (eight abreast) ***aults by armored Sturmgruppe Fw 190s, brought an urgency to attacking the Luftwaffe wherever it could be found. The P-51, particularly with the advent of the K-14 gunsight and the development of "Clobber Colleges" for the in-theater training of fighter pilots in fall 1944, was a decisive element in Allied countermeasures against the Jagdverbände."""

I had no idea this show was such a national event. It didn't get much press in Ohio which is a shame.
I was set to do fall clean up work outside Sunday but you guys are really starting to talk me out of it!

The Confederate Air Force flies out of Gillespie Field here in El Cajon and every now and again I'll see a P-51 in the group but I can never get enough! If watching one of these birds in flight, or even just sitting on the flight line, doesn't put a grin on your face then you must be dead. I'd love to be in Columbus this weekend!

not nearly as many as there should be, thats for sure.

the RCAF bought a lot off the USAF after WW2 and when we were done with them they got torn down, or even worse, some were just parked on lakes to wait for the ice to melt :(

Its supposed to be about 150 flyable, with maybe another 100 or so being restored or static.

cool video.

sigh...

I guess I will just have to go home and stare at my Mustang diecast collection (25 or so) and hope the tears don't stain the display case.

Let's all pray that the reasons for the 8 or 9 fatal crashes this year at airshows don't affect this one or the big CAF airshow down in Midland this weekend.

Yeah, there's been some bad airplane ju-ju floating around this year. I hope it's gotten its fill.

Is anyone familiar without the layout of the grounds? Maybe Cadillac Al?
Will a general admission ticket get you a good view? I tried to download the map on the site but it wouldn't work. Also do you think general spectactors will get to see the planes up close?

It is a couple hour drive but sure sounds worth it!
